Can I switch races after I have already registered?
Yes, up to April 15th, as long as the race you want to switch to is still open. Requests to switch after that date cannot be accommodated and those switching from the Half Marathon to the 10K will not receive a credit.
Where is the best place to park on race day?
Route 83 will be closed to traffic after 4:30am on Sunday morning. Therefore, it is critical that you follow the signs to race parking, which is located to the east, north and south of 76th Avenue and Route 83 in Palos Heights. As you approach the intersection of Route 83 and SW Highway (west) or Route 83 and Harlem Avenue (east), traffic control volunteers will be on hand to help.
For parents of Kid’s Dashers arriving later in the morning - if you do not live close by and need parking, please try the lots on Route 83 to the east between 76th Avenue and Harlem (Starbucks, 7-Eleven, Private Bank) or on Route 83 to the west near the intersection of Southwest Highway (Dunkin Donuts, CVS).
There will also be parking available in the Palos Park Metra station parking lot at 123rd Street and 82nd Avenue in Palos Park. From there you will have to walk to the race event site at City Hall in Palos Heights.
Due to the upfront nature of event costs, we have a uniform policy of no refunds, transfers or deferrals to a future year. We know that plans change and unexpected things come up, but we feel it is most fair to apply a uniform policy to all, instead of an arbitrary line of who merits a refund and who doesn't. Thank you for understanding.
How can I confirm my entry?
You should receive an e-mail confirmation after your registration is entered.
Where is packet pick-up located?
Packet pick-up takes place at the Health Fair & Community Expo on May 5th, located at Alan B. Shepard High School, 13049 S. Ridgeland Avenue in Palos Heights. After the expo closes at 1:00 p.m., runners can still pick up their packets until 3:00 p.m. but should enter at the north side of the building.
What are the Expo/Packet Pick-up hours?
The Health Fair & Community Expo will be on Saturday, May 5th, open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., however packet pick-up will remain open until 3:00 p.m. Runners wishing to pick up their packet after 1:00 p.m. should enter at the north side of the building.
Can someone else pick up my packet for me?
Yes. All this person needs is your registration confirmation, which you can look up online ahead of time.
Can I get a refund of my registration fee or transfer my registration to someone else?
We do not allow entrants to give or sell their numbers to another person, primarily for liability reasons. Both parties to a race number transfer will be banned from all future Illinois Marathon events. We do not allow for refunds of your registration fee.
Can I pick up my packet or register on Race Day?
There is no registration on Race Day for either event and we strongly encourage runners to pick up their packet at the Health Fair & Community Expo on Saturday, May 5th. If you (or your representative) are unable to attend the Expo, race packets may be picked up beginning at 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning at a specially marked table, located on the lawn near City Hall.
If someone other than yourself registered you for the race and you need to make a change to your registration, follow the instructions for how to claim your registration and make the changes yourself. Send an email to: email@example.com if you have any questions or problems making changes to an existing registration.
How is gear check handled?
If you are in the Half Marathon or 10K, your drop bag will be provided to you at the Health Fair & Community Expo on Saturday, May 6th. If you are unable to pick up your packet on Saturday, you may pick it up Sunday morning at a specially marked table located on the grounds of City Hall in Palos Heights.
Put inside your bag or a backpack any clothing that you want after the race. Use a safety pin to attach the gear bag check from the bottom of your race number to your bag and place it on the appropriately marked table on the north side of City Hall. Gear check opens at 5:30 a.m. After your race, you can pick up your drop bag in the Gear Check area.
Can I walk in the races?
We do allow walkers in the events, however the entire course must be vacated at 11:30 a.m., four hours after the start of the Half Marathon. For your safety, if you are on the course after 11:30 a.m., you will be picked up by a designated shuttle and transported to the finish area.
Are runners allowed to use headphones?
Headphones, ear buds, and so on are discouraged, for your safety and others around you. Runners should be alert to their surroundings and able to hear course volunteers and other runners.
Are strollers or pets allowed on the course?
We can allow strollers in the Half Marathon or 10K, however we require that those participants with such equipment line up at the very back of the starting corral to ensure the safety of all participants. We do not allow pets in any of our events. Please note strollers are not allowed in the Kid’s Dash.
How is the Half Marathon start organized?
The Half Marathon starts first, followed by the 10K. To lessen overcrowding on the course, runners start in waves based on pace. Runners are assigned to their waves based on their estimated finish times, specified during registration.
How is the 10K start organized?
To lessen overcrowding on the 10K course, we have a wave start. When entrants register for the 10K, they will need to choose one of the available estimated finish times.
For both races, your corral will be printed on your bib number. The fastest runners are assigned to the first wave and occupy the first start corral. After these runners have cleared the start line, the next corral moves up to the starting line. After a predetermined interval, the second wave starts and so on.
Walkers and slower runners should position themselves toward the back. Times are based on when your chip crosses the starting line. Slow participants who put themselves ahead of faster ones create a safety hazard and slow down other racers without any benefit to themselves.
Will there be pacers for the Half Marathon?
Yes. We have pacers that range from 1:35 to 2:44. Each member of the pacing team has a yellow sign that has a time on it, such as 2:05 (for example), and you can just stand with the appropriate group.
What are the start times for the race?
The Half Marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. CST on Sunday, May 7th. The 10K starts at 7:40 a.m. CST on Sunday, May 7th. The ½ Mile Walk, Run or Roll for special needs athletes starts at 7:50 a.m. CST on Sunday, May 7th. The Kid’s Dash Fun Run begins at 10:30am CST on Sunday, May 7th.
What are the time limits for the Half Marathon and 10K routes?
The time limit for traffic control on the course is a 4:00 finish time for the half marathon and 10K. If you are still on the course after the time limit, you will be picked up by an authorized shuttle bus and transported to the finish area. Agreements with IDOT and Cook County require that the course be vacated no later than 11 a.m.
How do Half Marathon and 10K finishers get their medals?
Race finishers (Half Marathon and 10K) will be given their commemorative medal on the course, immediately after they cross the finish line. If you do not receive a medal at the finish, there will be a specially marked table in the big main tent area.
How do I report incorrect or missing results?
Contact our event management company at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I get my cash prize if I qualify?
Cash prizes and awards will be distributed under the big main tent following the conclusion of the races. The band will begin playing at 9:00 a.m. and festivities, including refreshments and presentation of awards, are expected to begin at approximately 11 a.m.
What do I do if my shirt or medal is defective, or if I did not receive one or the other?
When you order hundreds of shirts and medals as we did, you inevitably have a few slip through along the way. If you make us aware of your problem, we will do everything possible to address it.
Can I still get my shirt even if I did not run the race?
If you preregistered for one of our events, but were unable to attend, you are welcome to pick up your technical shirt at Running for Kicks, located at 7158 W. 127th Street in Palos Heights, IL. Please visit www.runningforkicks.com for store hours and directions.
Why am I not receiving e-mails from the race?
Maybe you registered with a different e-mail address, or mistyped it – errors do occur. Your spam filter may also be asking us to answer questions in order for our e-mails to reach you. If there is a problem, try adding email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org to your contact list or your spam filter’s whitelist.
