Since 2009, the Southwest Half Marathon has included a half-mile competition for individuals with disabilities. This race has been made possible by the hard work and dedication of the South West Special Recreation Association (SWSRA), based in Alsip, IL. SWSRA Executive Director, Lori Chesna and her team of supporters and volunteers oversee the race, which has become a tradition and a part of the Southwest Half Marathon weekend that everyone treasures.

Special needs athletes may walk or run with the assistance of a parent, guardian or caregiver. They may also compete in a wheelchair, handbike, bicycle or stroller specially designed for use by disabled individuals.

For more information on the ½ Mile Walk, Run or Roll, or to help sponsor this special needs event, contact Lori Chesna, SWSRA Executive Director at 708/389-9423 or by email at lachesna@swsra.com.
